Roy had gotten incountry Aug. 22, 1968, he had joined Golf just after I had. I do not remember too much about Roy, just that he was a member of Golf Company and was entered into my Medevac book. The middle of July 2nd Battalion had just moved down to the Cau Ha Area just south of Da Nang. 2/1 had spent almost a year up North in Con Thien, Quang Tri, Phu Bai. and operations along the DMZ. Areas up north did not have the concentration of booby traps the Da Nang area did. We were fairly new to the Ca Hau but would learn about booby traps the hard way. Roy tripped a booby trap on October 9, 1968 and became the first booby trap KIA that I would medevac. I remember medevacing many many WIA boobtrap casualities from that area. The most famous Golf Company member was Lew Puller.

Another day in the life and death of a Marine Grunt.
