and I joined the Army in 1965 on the "buddie" plan,
we had just graduated high school in El Campo, TX. We attended
basic training together at Fort Polk, LA. After basic, I went
to jump school at Ft.Benning, and Tommie was accepted into WO
flight school. I went to Vietnam after training and stayed in
contact with Tommie as he went through his training. After he
finished he was assigned to Camp Eagle near the DMZ. Tommie was
killed in a rocket attack in less than a week after his arrival
in Vietnam.
