Letter from Jeanne Minhinnick, CM, Order of Canada to my aunt, Sheila Chapline dated July 30th, 1973.

Upper Canada Village, consultant to Heritage Canada and
author: At Home in Upper Canada, 1970,
At the request of my aunt to, she visited Glanmore shortly after its opening on July 7th, 1973.
Glanmore had been closed to the public between 1971 and 1973
during which time significant redecorating (not "restoration") was undertaken
i.e., original carpets replaced, walls painted, etc. This letter speaks to her opinion of the alterations made.

what Ms. Minhinnick saw, ref her comments in letter above
and as is still presented today by Museum Management officials
as a restoration to the Phillips era, photo: a concerned Belleville citizen.

This is what is presented to the public as the "restored" Glanmore
drawing room. Since this photograph was taken, the blue Wilton carpet,
has disappeared and has been replaced by a rug that I will leave it to
visitos to assess, and does not fit the room.

PDF document incorporating complete series of contemporary correspondence
surrounding the above letter, between Sheila Chapline, Philippa Faulkner,
Jean Minhinnick, Gerald Boyce, and officials from Canadian Heritage, and members of the
Museum Management Board. As well, incorporating samples of statements made by Museum staff about
the family who lived in Glanmore and the family experience of donation policy and practice

All of the misrepresentation with respect to restoration, continues to be done in violation of the City of Belleville's own mandate

which states:

to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret
objects that best serve to depict the lifestyle of
Glanmore's original residents J.P.C. and Harriet Phillips

Nothing about Glanmore further to the renovations
and misrepresentations since it became a museum
represents in "any way" the lifestyle of
J.P.C. or Hattie Phillips, a fact which
Heritage Canada, Belleville City Council
as well as the Museum Management Board
are well aware of from the time it opened
in 1973 to the present day.
